Catholic Daughters of the Americas

We are the largest National Organization of Catholic Women in the world. We were founded in 1903 by the Knights of Columbus in New York as an opportunity for Catholic women to belong to a fraternal organization and to help them improve themselves spiritually, intellectually and socially. Members must be 18 years or older and be a practicing Catholic. We promote Catholic values. We meet the third Wednesday of each month, September through May, in Madonna Hall at 9 am at Our Lady of Lourdes church. On a local level we usually have three fund raisers each year. We support our Parish, St. Vincent De Paul, Hospice, Seminarians, Right to Life, a Crisis Nursery and several other charities. We support the National CDA Charities as well as our State Court. We send delegates to the bi-annual State Convention. Our membership supports our Parish in many ways. Divine Mercy Devotional

Our enthusiasm for the Divine Mercy Message and the corresponding Adoration of our Lord held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church has prompted us to want to share some information on this beautiful devotion. One of our missions is to bring to a hurting world our Savior‟s message of Divine Mercy, as revealed to us through a Polish nun, Saint Faustina Kowalska. Jesus told her, “I am Mercy and Love itself” (Diary 1074). The Divine Mercy Group meets at Madonna Hall on Thursdays at 1:00 p.m. for a social gathering after which we proceed to the Church for Adoration from 2 - 3 pm. This includes singing of the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Benediction. We invite you to attend our devotionals as well as the preceding social hour. We believe that you will have a positive spiritual experience and will meet a group of warm and friendly people.

The Knights of Columbus

The Knights of Columbus is a Fraternal Catholic Organization for men. To become a member one must be a practicing Catholic in union with the Holy See. A prospective member must appear before an admission committee for an examination as to his qualifications for membership. Once a prospective member has passed the inquiry, all the pertinent information is entered on a form 100 and presented to the council‟s grand knight. The Form is then presented to the full membership for their approval. To become a knight, the prospective member must attend a first degree ceremony, with other prospective members from other councils. Once he completes this degree he will become a member of the order with full rights of membership. He will at that time receive a membership card, which must be presented at council meetings to be able to enter the hall. The Knights of Columbus is not a secret organization, only the ceremonials are secret. The Knights of Columbus of Our Lady of Lourdes Council #11809 meet twice a month, on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month. They meet at Our Lady of Lourdes in Madonna Hall. Meetings start at 7 pm. The first Thursday is the business meeting and the second Thursday is a social.

Ministry of Care

We at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish take seriously the mandate to bring Christ in the Eucharist to the hospitalized and homebound among us. We consider this ministry a call to service, and we commit our time and talent to those who need us. Ministers of Care are Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who are commissioned at the discretion of the Pastor and work under the supervision of the Director of Pastoral Care. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who serve at Mass are not necessarily Ministers of Care. Ministers of Care are required to complete additional training. The Ministry of Care at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish serves Del Webb Hospital, a number of assisted living facilities and anyone homebound within our parish boundaries who is unable to attend Mass. Holy Communion is taken to the hospital daily. Prayer and Communion services are held weekly and some assisted living facilities. At others, communicants receive in their rooms on a weekly basis. Homebound parishioners usually receive weekly. The Catholic Outreach Center is available for those parishioners who need additional assistance with resources. Information and referral, counseling, care management and parish nursing services are available. These services are provided to parishioners free of charge or at minimal cost.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Our Lady of Lourdes Conference

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is the largest Catholic lay organization in the world, operating in 142 countries. The Vincentians of Our Lady of Lourdes Conference provide person-to-person service to the needy in this area regardless of race, creed, color or status. We are dedicated to the urgent exhortation of our founder, Blessed Frederic Ozanam: “Let us go to the poor”. The homes we visit are among the special places where those who seek assistance and those who offer it meet on the common ground of God's love. The compassion of St. Vincent and Blessed Frederic motivates Vincentians to continue the ministry to the poor begun by Jesus Christ himself. The conference meets on the first and last Tuesday of every month in Madonna Hall at Our Lady of Lourdes at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in volunteering with St. Vincent de Paul, please leave a message on the St. Vincent de Paul office phone, 344-7267.

Respect Life

The Parish Respect Life Ministry conducts monthly Cradle Sunday weekend collections on the last weekend of each month throughout the year. Proceeds benefit the three Catholic-oriented crisis pregnancy clinics in the greater Phoenix area: Life Choices Women's Clinic, First Way and Aid to Women Center. Volunteers from our parish Respect Life Team and from each of the three clinics collect donations of baby goods and other items needed by the clinics after each Mass on Cradle Sunday weekends. Respect Life also conducts Spiritual Adoption in the parish. This program is designed to have parish members pray for babies in danger of abortion. Forms, prayer cards and enrollment forms are available in the vestibule of each church. Parishioners may enter the nine-month spiritual adoption program any time of the year. Respect Life Ministry also makes available to parishioners, blank copies of Advance Medical Directives (AMDs). AMDs are written instructions regarding your health care when/if you become incapacitated. These AMDs are an adaptation of the National Right to Life Committee „Will to Live‟, are approved by the Diocese and are in accord with the Statutes of the State of Arizona. The blank copies come complete with instructions for their completion. For more information on any of the above or about how to help or join our Respect Life Team.
