The Catholics of Sun City West formed the Parish of Our Lady of Lourdes in November, 1977. At that time they numbered about 30 people. Today, the parish has a population of over 2,700 families. Rev. Vincent J. Nevulis, the founding Pastor, held Sunday Mass in the Del Webb Social Hall from 1978 to 1982.
On February 8, 1981, ground was broken for Madonna Hall, and one year later, February 11, 1982, the building was dedicated by Most Reverend Thomas J. O‟Brien, Bishop of Phoenix.
On November 11, 1985, Rev. Cornelius Moynihan was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes. In July of 1986, the final payment on the debt for the land and for Madonna Hall was made to the Diocese.
In October of 1986, a drive to raise funds for the new Church was begun, and in December 1987, ground was broken for the new, Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Work on the new Church began in February, 1988, and the first Mass was celebrated on Sunday, November 19, 1988.
In 1993, Father Moynihan retired. Father Michael J. Minogue was appointed to succeed him as Pastor. Though blessed with this magnificent Church and campus, the needs of our growing parish could only be fulfilled by planning and building of its second Church. Thus the concept of “One Parish, Two Churches” was born.
On April 18, 1999, the dedication of the new Church, named “Prince of Peace”, became a reality. It‟s located at 151st Avenue and Deer Valley Drive, Sun City West.
Due to illness that plagued him for sometime, Father Minogue had to resign. On July 1, 2005, Father David Ostler was appointed the new Pastor.
